This is a labor of love.
We hope you enjoy the ride.

JazzAve is a street of fantasy.
Jazz is playing there 24 / 7, and you can visit it anytime.
We’re your guides, exploring the highlights and nuances of the music, conversing, telling stories, and giving you carefully curated resources along the way.

The Voices

JazzAve came about when John Redman suggested to Steve Elman that they talk about music in casual conversations that would draw on Steve’s experiences as a constant listener, a music writer, and a jazz radio announcer.
Their goal in these ’casts is to get to some universals about music . . . and maybe even about life.

Steve Elman

Co-Host & Lead Storyteller

Steve Elman is a writer, broadcaster and cultural historian who’s spent decades exploring jazz and getting to know the people who create it. His experience informs every episode of JazzAve with personal perspective and down-to-earth analysis. He’s curated playlists for every episode and provided detailed commentary here on our site to help you hear more of what you’d like to hear. He loves the ways jazz has enriched his life and he’s passionate about sharing those riches with you.

John Redman

Co-Host & Curator of Conversations

John Redman is a dedicated listener and lifelong learner with a passion for the human side of music. He’s an economist by training and a folk/country singer-songwriter by vocation. So, while he knows what it’s like to be a working musician in the real world, he’s no jazz expert! His job is to try to be your rep in these ‘casts, bringing his natural curiosity to each conversation. He comes to the performances we’re featuring with fresh ears, and he hopes to ask the questions you might ask if you were in his shoes!

Take a Walk Along these Other Streets

Frankly, when we try to survey even a small number of the jazz resources available on-line today, our brains fog over.

There are literally dozens of jazz blogs, jazz podcasts, sites streaming jazz 24 / 7, and even sites aggregating other jazz sites.
